OSU Youth Orchestra

The OSU Youth Orchestra (OSUYO) is a full symphony consisting of mostly high school students in strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion sections. Repertoire includes many standard masterworks expertly arranged for educational ensembles, as well as original compositions and contemporary works. The OSUYO is conducted by OSU faculty member Dr. Thomas Taylor Dickey.  

The OSU Youth Orchestra meet every Monday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts on OSU's Stillwater campus. 

Audition Repertoire

String Audition Requirements

 

1)  Perform a Scale – 1st violins and cellos should prepare a three-octave scale.  2nd violins, violas, and basses (where possible) should prepare a two-octave scale.

2)  Perform a Brief Solo Piece – Students should select a piece that best represents their skills. This piece should be technically challenging but also demonstrate the student’s ability to play musically and expressively.  Students should bring a copy of the piece for the judges. 

 

Woodwind/Brass Audition Requirements 

 

1)  Perform a Scale – The scale should be a two-octave (where possible) major scale of the student's choice. 

2)  Perform a Brief Solo Piece - Students should select a piece that best represents their skills. This piece should be technically challenging but also demonstrate the student’s ability to play musically and expressively. The excerpt should be either a solo and/or etude. Students should bring a copy of the piece for the judges.
